More and more becoming the workhorse of naval vaiation, the F-18 hornet has served operationally since 1983. The most comman variant today is the F-18C/D model however some of these are due to be replaced with the more advanced F-18E/F. The Super Hornet has recently completed initial testing at NAS Patuxent River with the Naval Strike Aircraft Test Squadron. All but two east coast F-18 squadrons have joined the VFC-12 at NAS Oceana with the recent closure of NAS Cecil Field. West coast squadrons are based at NAS Lemoore.
